The African fish eagle is a close relative to our national bird, the Bald eagle.  This species is threatened by human habitat change and the water extraction for use on the ever-growing flower farms surrounding the lake.  The industrialized flower farms are detrimental to the animals that live within the surrounding ecosystem.  As a consumer, find out where your products are coming from.  Always try to buy products from local farms and choose organic when possible.  To help the survival of the African fish eagle and other life around the planet, think globally and act locally.

Windfarms: A blessing or lesser evil

With the population skyrocketing, energy consumption is rising as well.  With the ever increasing demand of energy, new ways and cleaner ways of manufacturing power are on the rise.  Cleaner power such as water and wind are great ways to keep emissions down from the not-so-green nuclear power plants, but are they the answer to all our power salvation needs?  Water dams disrupt the flow of salmon up river where they need to spawn.  Wind farms are a great alternative choice unless you are a migrating raptor.  The need for energy is always rising, and these cleaner alternatives are a great source of energy, however, it is not enough.  A great way to help solve this problem is not how to develop more energy, but to conserve the energy we already have.  Turning off lights, tvs, radios, computer, and other electronic devices in the home  will not only reduce the energy consumption, it will reduce you power bill as well.
